1. NEW Form I-9 Released

NEW Form I-9 Released Effective January 31, 2020, the USCIS released the long-anticipated revised Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification (Form I-9), with an edition date of “10/21/2019.” The changes are minor but need to be implemented no later than April 30, 2020.

2. Affordable Care Act Affordability Percentage Revised

The IRS has released its annual inflation adjustment to the percentage of household income used to determine whether an employer’s offer of health care coverage under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) is affordable [Rev.Proc. 2019-29].

3. U.S. DOL Issues Final Rule To Update FLSA’s Joint Employer Regulations

For the first time in sixty years, the U.S. Department of Labor announced a final rule to update the regulations interpreting joint employer status under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).

This rule promotes greater uniformity among court decisions by providing a clearer interpretation of FLSA joint employer status.

Changes to overtime rules beginning January 1,2020 will qualify over 1.3 million additional employees for overtime pay. Consequently, many employers will be determining which employees qualify as exempt or non-exempt under the new rules.
